Swedish Massage Therapy in Madison FL

Swedish massage is probably the best-known form of massage in the U.S. with a goal of relaxing your entire body. Swedish massage therapy in Madison FL involves rubbing muscles with long, soft, and gliding strokes in the direction blood returns to your heart. This is combined with movement of your joints, kneading, and sometimes tapping.

If you’ve ever had a massage that was too painful to continue, a deep-tissue massage therapist can help. This whole-body massage can be very gentle and slow or vigorous, depending on your needs and what your therapist wants to accomplish.

Let's discuss your massage needs. I'm always happy to hear from you.

A Brief History of Swedish Massage

This popular form of massage was developed in Sweden in the 18th century by Per Henrik Ling, a fencing instructor. Ling then introduced it into the United States in 1858. Originally called the Swedish Movement Cure, Ling created this massage system with his knowledge of physiology, gymnastics, and Roman, Greek, Egyptian, and Chinese techniques.

What to Expect
If you’ve never had a massage before, don’t be nervous! Swedish massage does not need to be uncomfortable or painful. During your massage, you will lie down on a massage table under a sheet or towel. Swedish massage is a full-body treatment, aside from any areas you do not want to be touched. A session usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes and it may involve several of these basic techniques.

Effleurage, the most common stroke in Deep-Tissue massage. This is a smooth, gliding movement toward your heart that traces the contours of your body with a flat palm. Light or medium pressure is used to relax your body, warm up your muscles, calm nerves, and improve blood flow.

Pétrissage, which is similar to kneading dough. This technique involves rolling and lifting flesh between the hands to release muscle tension.

Vibration, which involves gently shaking the flesh with the fingertips. This technique helps relieve muscle tension in small muscles.

Friction, which works on deeper muscles and is the deepest technique used in Swedish massage. Friction uses a continuous sliding motion or alternating circular motions.

Tapotement, tapping and percussion, is a choppy rhythmic motion that can be intense for some people. If you are not comfortable,
